April Ross
April Ross was one of only a few women beach volleyball players who have won medals at multiple Olympics. In Tokyo over the next several days she will attempt to win her third gold medal with fellow first-time Olympian Alix Klineman. Ross is also hoping to win her first Olympic gold. It may well be that it is her last chance at winning, as she's 39 old. But she's convinced that top honors are firmly at hand. Ross was reported on NBC Boston as saying that If you put in your highest, and even play well we will get the gold. Also, I am going to rely on a bit of good luck. Ross was born in 1982, and grew up within Costa Mesa California with her siblings and parents, started competing in sports at Newport Harbor High School. Ross's athletic endeavors continued at Newport Harbor High School where she participated in several activities. In addition to playing indoor volleyball, she also played basketball and jogged track as a pre-collegiate athlete. She stood out however at this level. Her college biography states that she played outside of the hitter, middle blocker, as well as a setter during her volleyball career at high school. The award was presented to her as the Gatorade National Circle of Champions player of the year in 1999 for her achievements. The 2000 Orange County Athlete of the Month award was also won by her in volleyball. Even though Ross Klineman and Ross are a couple since the year 2017, Klineman had already been a major athlete on the beach long before their pairing. In actual Ross has been a winner of several significant tournaments during her time with two partners. One of them is a volleyball legend. Jennifer Kessy was her partner during six years from 2007 to 2013. Also, she coached Klineman and herself. Kessy and Ross were an impressive force on the international arena, taking home the world championship in 2009 as a team. They went through to take home a silver medal at the 2012 Olympic Games at London. Misty Maytreanor (Jennings) and Misty Maytreanor clinched gold overtaking them. Ross Jennings was the replacement for May-Treanor as she retired. They won the bronze medal in beach volleyball at the Rio Olympics in 2016. Ross was a student athlete with the Trojans of USC prior to starting her professional career. She played during high school and in years prior to hitting the beach professionally. And her run at the school was one to remember. She was an All-American as well as Pac-10 freshman of the year in 2000 as a young freshman. The Trojans were also able to get to the Final Four with her help. After her sophomore year, she experienced a terrible personal loss and still managed to earn the honor of being named an All-American. Through her two final years of participation in the Trojans program, she guided the team to win a national championship every year. In her own way Ross established her status as a legend by winning the Honda Sports Award for 2003-04. This award was given to the most outstanding female college volleyball players in the United States. Ross studied the study of international relations in USC. Margie Ross, Ross' mother, did not have the opportunity to see her daughter grow into a beach volleyball superstar. Ross's mother passed away from breast carcinoma in the year 2001. Ross had just become a second-year student at USC. She continues to cherish her late parent. Margie is an inspiration both on and off of the beach.
